Eye-safe lasers can be applied for urban profiling, auto and truck vehicle collision avoidance, security zone monitoring, landing, high precise positioning systems (both for global and local). Passat’s compact eye-safe 100-uJ 200-Hz lasers (www.Passatltd.com/pdf/PageI.pdf) allow ranging up to one thousand feet with a pulse-to-pulse time interval measurement accuracy about couple of inches.

The following optical scheme has been used to demonstrate the ability to measure distances with accuracy better than 3 inches:

Results of our tests are shown below. The typical waveforms were recorded with 100 ps pulses at 1599 nm.
